I do etegami. Etegami is a Japanese folk art, and it literally means “picture letters.” Using watercolor, sumi ink, and a handmade stamp (or “chop”, or, you know Japanese, a hanko), I paint original works on a thick, porous washi paper. Etegami must always include a phrase or quote or word to go with the image. Most often I send my etegami to friends as thank yous or as greetings.
As a “signature,” etegami artists use a simple stamp, often hand-carved from a regular eraser.
