stick with love

“And I say to you, I have also decided to stick with love, for I know that love is ultimately the only answer to mankind’s problems.” Martin Luther King, Jr. (link)

I’ve had these words, Stick with love, in my mind a lot. Dr. King spoke them in a  speech on 16 August 1967, “Where Do We Go From Here?,” delivered at the 11th Annual SCLC Convention in Atlanta, Ga. The words have been an antidote of sorts lately, reminding me of what is important when things seem so difficult and hate-filled in our current political and social environment.

When words get stuck in my head like that I sometimes try to use them in an etegami. Here I used them on a drawing I’d made of the Black Beauty Stick Insect, an endangered species from Peru. I’d read about them a while ago, here on Featured Creature, and recently Laughing Squid posted an article about their dwindling numbers.

I post this etegami with some trepidation that the visual pun of a stick insect might seem to make light of the powerful words of Dr. King. I hope that it is not taken that way.
